THE MINNESOTA DAILY
THE MINNESOTA DAILY
The Minnesota Daily, the official student newspaper of the University of Minnesota, began publishing in May 1900. However, the newspaper's history dates back to 1877, when it started as a monthly literary magazine called Ariel. The Ariel was created by 15 seniors and 26 juniors to provide a forum for student individuality and to inform the public about the University of Minnesota's growth.
The Ariel became a daily publication in 1900 in response to the competing daily publication, The Football. The Ariel was renamed the Minnesota Daily and combined with another competitor, The Minnesota Daily News, after a few months of daily publication.
The last physical print issue of the Minnesota Daily was published on March 5, 2020. The newspaper is now published online at mndaily.com, where it publishes daily stories, web videos, photo slideshows, and other features.
